On Monday 21st the lessons of the first year of the degree course in Physics will start and will be delivered in double presence/distance mode.

The programme of the day is as follows:

  • 9:30 - 11:00: Welcome to the freshmen, presentation of the course of studies, safety regulations and rules of conduct for the management of health emergencies.
  • 11:15 - 13:00: lesson of the Mathematical Analysis Course.

Those who want to attend in presence of the day will have to:

On May 21, 2019, the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo detectors observed a gravitational wave coming from the merger of an extraordinary pair of black holes. The signal, called GW190521, originated from the coalescence of two objects of mass 65 and 85 Solar masses respectively (MꙨ).

ShanghaiRanking Consultancy is a fully independent organization dedicating to research on higher education intelligence and consultation. It has been the official publisher of the Academic Ranking of World Universities since 2009.

According to ShanghaiRanking , Physics in Genoa is among the first 75 courses out of 500 in the world.

Andrea Celentano, researcher at the Genoa section of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics and adjunct professor at the University of Genoa, received a "Startin Grant" ERC (European Research Council) with the "POKER", "POsitron resonant annihilation into darK mattER ".

The project, approved for 5 years starting from December 2020 with a funding of about 1.5 M €, will investigate a new approach for the search for light dark matter, using the high-energy positron beam available at CERN collided with a thick target. .

Andrea Amoretti, Gianluca Costagliola, Nicodemo Magnoli and Marcello Scanavino have published an article on Physical review D that has been chosen as editor's suggestion.

The authors explore a method for computing correlation functions that is complementary to the well-known bootstrap program and particularly well suited for determining the behavior of off-critical systems, i.e. systems perturbed around their conformal point. They do so for a class of perturbations of the 3D Ising model which are relevant for real experiments on systems in a so-called thermal trap.

The Physics Department will be close from 10 to 21 August 2020.

For the rest of the month of August the Department will be open from 8:30 to 14:30

Starting from July 8th the study room at DIFI will be open

Access is divided into two shifts, 25 places are available for each shift:

  • Shift 1 - Morning - 08:30 - 13:15
  • Shift 2 - Afternoon - 14:15 - 19:00
